Know India Programme - 2017
(For people of Indian Origin)

The Government of India has been organising the Know India Programmes to create awareness about the phenomenal transformation taking place in India and the country’s progress from just a destination for culture, heritage and art to an emerging powerhouse in the global economic system.

The Know India Programme is a 25 days programme (excluding international travel) during which the chosen participants visit select Cities and States in India, along with places of historical, cultural and religious significance. KIP participants also have a 2-day orientation programme in New Delhi and they get to meet opinion makers, leaders, officials etc. to get an overview of India’s economy, society and ongoing growth and development story.

Participants are provided local hospitality e.g. boarding and internal transportation in India, return air tickets from their country of residence to India, provided they bear 10% of the cost of total air fare. Gratis visas are granted to participants by the Indian Missions/Posts abroad.

Minimum qualification required for participating in KIP is graduation from a recognized University/Institute or be enrolled for graduation and the ability to speak in English. The applicant should not have visited India through any previous Programme of Government of India. Those who have not visited India before will be given preference.

The Applicants must provide documentary evidence to prove Indian origin or an undertaking about Indian origin, which must be countersigned by an Indian Embassy/High Commission/Consulate General.The Government of India inaugurated a portal for the Know India Programme (KIP) on 17 June 2017. The portal www.kip.gov.in enables Indian-origin youth to apply online for KIP programmes. (After applying on-line, applicants in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua should inform this Embassy, for follow up action)

In 2017-18 six KIPs will be organized for the participation of 40 overseas Indians, in each programme. Indian-origin youth can submit applications online for the following first four KIPs to be held in 2017 i.e. 41, 42, 43 & 44:

N.B. The 45th and 46th KIPs will be held in early 2018. Applications for these KIPs will be accepted in October. The entire schedule of KIPs has been finalized and can be seen online

Applications can be submitted online by the overseas Indians from 23 June to 21 July 2017 and the final list of successful KIP participants will be drawn up by Ministry by 31 July. The applicants can indicate their preferences online for any three KIPs.

Interested applicants are advised to submit their applications online before the deadline i.e. 21 July, 2017 and also inform this Embassy.
