Brief Profile of Mr. Upender Singh Rawat

Amb. Upender Singh Rawat is an officer of the 1998 batch of Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Prior to joining the Government of India, he was a Physics instructor.

After joining the IFS, as a career diplomat he served in various capacities, starting as third Secretary in the Embassy of India, Buenos Aires where he also learnt Spanish. He has served in Indian Diplomatic Missions in Slovakia, UK and Mexico. His last diplomatic assignment was as Deputy Chief of Mission in the Indian Embassy in theRepublic of Korea.

Prior to his arrival in Panama as the Ambassador of India, he was posted in NewDelhi as Joint Secretary in charge of eGovernance & Information Technology and cyber Diplomacy Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. He has also worked in MEA, New Delhi as Joint Secretary in charge of Consular, Passport&Visa Division and Desk Officer on Consular & Extradition Matters.

Amb. Rawat knows Hindi, Spanish, Garhwali and English. He is deeply interested in various aspects and developments in the field of information technology. His interests and hobbies include reading, traveling, trekking, spirituality, meditation and yoga.

He is married with a daughter and a son.
